
Community Tabernacle Church of God In Christ was organized November 24, 1997. Pastor John T. Smith is the founding pastor, along with his wife, Lady Joce Rogers Smith. The first family has three children; 5 grandchildren; and two great grand-children and one heavenly angel. Pastor Smith served in the United States Army and was deployed to the Viet Nam War as a Combat Medic. He was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was appointed District Superintendent over the Ephesians District of Florida Southern Jurisdiction under the leadership of the late Bishop Julian C. Jackson. He now serves as the Administrative Assistant to Bishop Marc Antonio Cooper, recently appointed prelate of Florida Southern Jurisdiction.
Superintendent John Smith earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Miami Dade College. Prior to retirement, he served the Miami Dade County for over 30 years. He began as a hemodialysis technician and was trained and hired later as a Miami Dade County Fire Fighter. He held positions of firefighter and firefighter driver. Following additional training he joined the Fire Rescue personnel as a Dade County Fire Rescue Driver. Superintendent Smith would later earn a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from St Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Superintendent John Smith has been married to Lady Joce Smith for over 52 years. Lady Smith holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Florida International University, Tamiami, Florida. She is a retired administrator and adjunct instructor of Miami Dade College, Miami, Florida. Lady Smith is the author of two books which can be found on Amazon. She has also co-authored two other publications as well. She is a constant by her husband’s side as his partner in ministry. She uses her gifts and talents to support his vision, and the work of the ministry in every way possible.
